Do you wear dental crowns? Well, remember that I have a dental office in the Wilkes-Barre area. So please come to me should you suffer from a broken dental crown. Wilkes-Barre dentist Fotolia_7053191_XS.jpg

Crowns can eventually weaken. The ones I use in my Back Mountain Dental office may last a very long time. Especially if you take care of them.

Even the high-tech materials being used these days may not last as long if you fail to care for them in the right way. If you grind your teeth while asleep, it could give you problems. Many people do this but don't know it.

And you get others who chew aggressively when they eat, or they may like to bite hard on ice.

When you fracture a dental crown it may be because of the porcelain. Or the area of the crown that has porcelain in it. Metals such as gold is difficult to fracture because of their flexibility to grinding and other pressure-related actions of your jaw.

The ability of these metals to adjust make them ideal to hold up your dental crowns.

However, while metals can do the job really well, they are not really pleasing to the eye. Therefore, we use porcelain along with metal on the crown. We can go one step further by using 100 per cent ceramic crowns that has no metal. But this is more fragile than crowns with metal in them when used on back teeth.

Porcelain, though, can pass for real teeth because it has that translucent look and feel that is characteristic of teeth. But it has difficulty with the great pressures you impose when you chew or grind.

And another thing. Porcelain is a frail substance so if you break one side of the crown, the damage will easily spread. You cannot keep a broken ceramic crown in your mouth. Once it breaks, we will need to replace it. Don't ignore damaged crowns.

Therefore, if you're in the area and have suffered a damaged dental crown, I would recommend you see me and allow myself and my excellent team to give you the best possible treatment.
